Grace reigns

Do you get tired of hearing about all of the terrible things that happen in this world? It seems that the news is always finding a new murder statistic or some form of terrorism that we didn't know about. I don't want to sound naive or childish because these reports and stories are very important and need to be addressed. People are impoverished, people are being murdered and people are without love. Knowing these things exist is one thing, but knowing and still looking for good in our world is another thing altogether. I know I sound a little ridiculous, but I want to share some thoughts that could brighten an otherwise cynical outlook on our world.

  • 3,941,000 [the number of births in the U.S. reported during the 2013 calendar month for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention... That's three million new lives!!]
  • 4,200,000 [the total number of athletes ever involved in the Special Olympics, a number that has risen dramatically since 2006]
  • $5,000,000,000 [amount of money that Relay for Life has raised since its creation in 1985]
While I know three figures are like small fish in a big pond, I think they are important to know. Facts and statistics like these show that within a decaying world, there are still people that fight to preserve goodness and protect life. The world is dying, this we know for certain, but never believe that our God is without mercy, or that His grace is trapped in murder statistics and terror. He is bigger than the numbers I listed, He is bigger than hurt and shame and affliction. He is bigger than the world, and He has already overcome it.

"... So that as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord..." Romans 5:21
